Past Events
July 3rd – 5th, 2009 – VHF NFD 2009. We entered the unrestricted section on 5 bands for VHF NFD. Details here.
June 26th – 29th, 2009 – Friedrichshafen Ham Radio 2009. 4 Camb-Hams plus others headed to Germany for more beer, fun and radios.
April 18th – 25th, 2009 – Trip to Harris, Outer Hebrides, north west of Scotland. 7 Camb-Hams and 5 other Scottish operators activated EU-010 for 1 week on HF and VHF.
September 27th – 29th, 2008 – Ham Radio La Louviere Expo. This was planned as an overnight trip for 4 Camb-Hams but due to unfortunate circumstances one of us had to pull out at the last minute. The trip was being planned for a few weeks with the plan being to leave Cambridge around midnight, catch the Eurostar to Calais, visit a WWI war memorial then activate a nearby summit. Most of this happened except there was a fire in the tunnel a few weeks before so we needed to book a ferry instead. So one man down and a change of English Channel transport we successfully managed to get to the rally and back while still managing to fit dinner in a French restaurant! It was a very good rally and many good items were available; lots of kits and components, radios and beer. I think we might go again next year…
June 26th – 1st, 2008 – Friedrichshafen Ham Radio 2008. 4 Camb-Hams went over to Ham Radio Friedrichshafen for a second year. This year 2 of us drove over with the expectation of buying lots of big or heavy equipment, alas the heaviest item bought was an N-Type connector. Still it was well worth being there again. Photos can be seen here. Flights and air conditioned hotel are booked and I’m looking forward to Ham Radio 2009!
April 26th – 3rd, 2008 – Trip to Mull, West Scotland. After discussions at Pie and Pints about SOTA, IOTA or VHF stuff we have decided to head to Mull for a weeks activity at the end of April. Mull offers SOTA, IOTA (EU-008) and rare square (IO66 & IO76) VHF opportunities! We have booked 2 cottages in Carsaig next to each other which have 12 beds in between them. Looking at operating on 80m, 40, 20, 6, and 2m. Places are now full – contact Gavin M1BXF for more info…
November 16th, 2007 – CRG AGM, Cambridge. The Annual General Meeting of the CRG was held on Nov 16, 2007 starting at 1930hrs and ran till 2200hrs!

October 20 – 21, 2007 – JOTA, Buntingford. Voi G0BOE, Gerald G0HEM and Gavin M1BXF all took a trip to Buntingford scout hall to activate GB0WDS (Ware and District Scouts) for the JOTA weekend. Scout leaders Derek (an M3 who’s call doesn’t come to hand) and Bob helped with putting the antennas up. We ran 2 stations. Station 1 was an HF setup consisting of a Yaesu FT-840, MFJ tuner and a full sized G5RV kindly donated by ML&S (see below) and station 2 was VHF/UHF (with 20m capabilities) running an Icom IC-910H with a 7ele 2m beam plus a Yaesu FT-857 connected to a 6/2/70 vertical. The FT-857 was also QRV on 20m where some data modes such as RTTY, PSK and SSTV were demonstrated. Various members of Camb-Hams loaned equipment for the day which we and the scouts are most grateful. See the pics here.
October 20 – 21, 2007 – RSGB HF Convention, Wyboston Lakes – Bedford. Rob M1XZG, John M0EAV, Gerald G0HEM, Dave G7DIU and Gavin M1BXF whet along to help Neil G4HUN and the RSGB out at the HFC. A fun time was had by all. We had deep and meaningful conversations with Ian from Icom, sat in on some really good lectures, drank ample coffee, helped ML&S to pack-up and were given a full sized G5RV for our troubles and got ourselves free HFC t-shirts at the end! Well we had been wearing them all weekend so I don’t think they wanted them back. RSGB info here .

September 2, 2006 – The Anchor – GRAND OPENING. We were asked to provide a radio display at The Anchor on it’s grand opening day. The landlord of the pub, also a fellow ham, Robert G7DME, was having a family day for the pubs grand opening. They had a variety of events on for kids and adults and wanted a ham radio display on site for the day. A special events call sign was allocated for the event GB0TAB. The location for the event was at: 63 North St, Burwell, Cambs, CB5 0BA. For some info about the pub (might be outdated). Lat/Lon: N52 17.0780 / E00 19.4346 Grid Square: JO02dg
